A pogány kunokat Fülöp püspök térítette át a keresztény hitre, emlékére a vidéket Fülöpszállásként kezdték nevezni. A kunok több évszázad viszontagságai után 1745-ben szerezték vissza a kiváltságaikat. 1948-ban Fülöpháza pusztát önálló községgé szervezték. A település életét a természeti látnivalókra szervezett tanyai vendégfogadás határozza meg. A település határának mintegy felét teszi ki a Kiskunsági Nemzeti Park egyik leglátogatottabb védett térsége a Fülöpházi buckavidék.
